Phantom Buck? Or Dead Deer Walking?

This prize buck is still around, even though it's archery season in Pennsylvania. But he could be 'dead deer walking' by opening day, November 25, daybreak.

The question is, is this the same buck that's pictured in Terry's backyard photos below, in the black and white shots? No pun intended, you know, shots. Is this deer is a phantom buck? It comes and goes when it wants, but can't be taken with the human eye...looking through the scope of a gun? Or from an archer's tree stand.

Phantom Buck, or Dead Deer Walking? Mr. Mudge's photos will decide the answer in January.

But here's the question. Why is a male deer called a buck? Who knows? Nobody knows, except Terry. The history teacher says that the name buck comes from South Carolina in the 1780s, where a male deer skin or hide would cost a buck and a doe's, 75 cents. Now who would have known that? Only Terry, of course, and you thought this website was just a bunch of  photographs.

Of course, maybe Jane told him. As we say in South Philly, God forbid!

Will this buck survive hunting season?
